YES Theater Kid Tech Program
The YES Foundation's Theater Program offers an opportunity for students to participate backstage as members of a working technical crew. The Kid Tech program is unique in that after proper training, kids will run shows under adult supervision. There are opportunities to learn lighting, sound, stage management, etc. Due to high interest, enrollment in Kid Tech is done via a lottery system. Students are registered for the lottery and then randomly selected to participate. Families are notified via email and must fully register their child into the program. Students not selected are also notified and placed on a waitlist. The KT program has limited enrollment due to the necessary supervision of the children working with professional, expensive equipment, and safety considerations.
Kid Tech activities include two separate after-school classes at their school, a Saturday workshop, a tour of the Playhouse in San Anselmo, a full week of technical rehearsals at the Playhouse after school, and the entire weekend of performances (Friday-Sunday). It is an important commitment as your student will learn a specific job and there is no understudy to step in! Illness is the only excusable absence.
If your child is also interested in considering a spot with the cast, please register for the Kid Tech lottery, but have them attend the Cast Workshops as well. You do not need to register and pay for them to attend the workshops. They should check in with the Site Manager on arrival and let them know that they are interested in learning more about participating with the cast. If offered a spot with Kid Tech, you will only need to register them into that program. If they decide to continue with the cast, you will register there.
